SLAMABAD: Several Independent power plants (IPPs) have stopped supply of electricity due to non-payment of dues from Pepco and non-supply of furnace oil to the Independent power producers (IPPs), surging the power shortfall to over 5,000 megawatts.
Power crisis in the country has further worsened for want of the funds and furnace oil. Among the power plants whose generation of electricity has dropped down included Turkey, Gulf, Hubco and Kot Addu, while Faisalabad, Roosh, Reshma, Shahidra, Orient, Lal Pir, Japan and Sepcol power plants have been rendered completely shut.
The shortfall in power went up by 2,000 megawatts due to the dwindling generation of electricity, which has resulted Lahore load-shedding duration stretching over to 14 hours.
Pepco spokesman said that the generation of electricity aggregated to only 13,240 megawatt, while the demand peaks at 18,065 megawatt. Giving breakup of electricity generation, he said currently the hydel power production stood at 5,030 megawatt and Thermal at 1,813 megawatt, while 6,297 megawatt of electricity being received from the IPPs.
